Common drugs and dosages

This is my HUGE DISCLAIMER I must post first. I am only listing some common drugs used on my DOGS, I am not a Veterinarian I am not making diagnoses here. I am listing here the recommended dosages from the drug's manufacturer's sites for quick reference only. Dosages from your own Vet. may vary due to the condition of the patient or interactions w/other drugs given at the same time.

Abbreviations are:

PO- Give orally
SQ- Subcutaneously
IM- Intramuscularly
ml-milliliter
mg- milligram
kg- kilogram
U- units
iu-international units
bid- twice daily
tid- three times a day
qid- four times a day
q- every, h- hour, wk- week

Conversion table for lbs. to kgs.

Dog's weight divided by 2.2 to determine his kg.
Therefore a 100 lb dog would be (100lbs divided by 2.2=45.4kg)

Therefore: (10mg/kg q 12h PO) means give 10 milligrams per each kilogram of body weight every 12 hours.

A 100 lb dog would get 455mg am and pm.

acepromazine: (0.56-2.25mg/kg PO q 6-8h) (Can be used for calming Stud dogs when bitches are in season. Not for dogs prone to epilepsy)

amoxicillin: (10-20 mg/kg q 8-12h PO) for treating bacterial infections.

ampicillin: (20-40 mg/kg q 8h PO)

bromelain: (400-500mg/100lb dog q 24h) Helps control the progression of DJD and also helps stop eating stool

cephalexin: (10-30 mg/kg q 6-12h PO) Treats infections caused by bacteria, including ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections.

cimetidine "Tagament": (10 mg/kg q 6-8hPO) (renal failure 2-5mg/kg q 12h PO) Treatment of ulcers, gastritis, other inflammations along digestive tract, & acid reflux.

ciprofloxacin "Cipro": (5-15 mg/kg q 12h PO) Broad spectrum antibiotic to treat infection.

doxycycline "Vibramycin": (2.5-5 mg/kg q 12h PO)Treat Lyme, Ehrlichia, mycoplasma

fenbendazole "Panacur": (50 mg/kg/day for 3 days PO) Used to remove various gastrointestinal parasites.

folic acid: (5 mg/kg/day)

gentamicin spray: A broad-spectrum antibiotic, is a highly effective topical treatment for bacterial infections of the skin

hydrogen peroxide: (to induce vomiting: 5-10 ml PO; may repeat once w/in 10 min.)

ivermectin: heartworm preventitive: (6 mcg/kg q 30d PO)

kaolin plus pectin: (1-2 ml/kg q 2-6h PO)

metoclopramide: (0,2-0,5mg/kg q 6-8h PO)

metronidazole "FLAGYL": (25-65 mg/kg q 24h PO, 12-15 mg/kg q 12h;) (giardiasis, 10mg/kg q 8h PO)

prednisone: (0.5-1 mg/kg q 12-24 PO initially, then taper to q 48h given in the AM)

pyrantel Pamoate: (5mg/kg PO once, then repeat in 7-14 days)

rimadyl: (4.4mg/kg once daily)

simplicef: (200 mg q 24h PO for 100 lb dog)(urinary tract infection)

sulfadimethoxine "Albon": (55 mg/kg PO loading dose, followed by 27.5 mg/kg q 12h)

tepoxalin "Zubrin" : 10mg/kg q 24h) Used to treat the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.(hold for 4 seconds in cheek of mouth, w/food)

tylosin "Tylan": (7-15 mg/kg q 8h PO);(colitis, 40-80 mg/kg/day 9with food)

ultram "tramadol": (1-2 mg/kg q 12h PO)(up to 5 mg/kg q 12h PO)

Vitamin A: (625-800 IU/kg q 24h PO)

Vitamin B complex: (0.5-2 ml q 24h IV IM SC)

Vitamin C: (100-500 mg/kg/day)

Vitamin D: (500-2000 U/kg/day PO)

Vitamin E: 100-400 IU q 12h PO)
